MORE MUSHROOMS AND CLEANING CORRALS

The forest around our place is still pushing up mushrooms.  This is really unusual for us I think.  We haven't had a killing frost yet and still have flowers blooming!  The hunters are still hunting and have gotten a few more.  We are not seeing as many elk as we were though.

Put Ross to work this afternoon cleaning corrals.  He is a natural at driving the tractor piling up horse poop.

Zeph is always keeping an eye on what is going on when he is not making you throw the ball!!

BEAR TROUBLE

Got a call the other night from our neighbors who had a bear trying to get into their sheep pen.  I told them to beat some pans together until I could get there to see if it would take off.  It was after midnight and I did not see the bear when I got down there.  We looked around for it but it had taken off.  It came back sometime in the night and killed 2 sheep, basically eviscerated one, and chewed 2 up pretty bad.  They ended up taking the three down to a local butcher to save what meat they could.  They were ready for it the next night when it came back.  The oldest daughter shot it when it was climbing over the fence to get back in the pen.  the fish and game folks told them to leave the dead ones there to see if it would come back.  It was a very good shot and the bear did not go very far.  We were all glad to get rid of that bear.  But, now fresh bear sign has been seen after that bear was shot so we still might have a bear hanging around.  The joys of living where we do.
