19 March 2011: Watched my last sunrise from sunrise knob yesterday then we drove down to Gila Bend Air Force Station and set up camp in the Famcamp here. Cheap place to stay with full hookups and laundry, all of which we needed after spending 6 nights out in the desert south of Ajo. It is not the most beautiful place we have ever stayed though. This morning we got up and headed out to Painted Rocks petroglyph site about 30 miles northwest of here. We had been out there before, but the place is always worth looking at twice. It is the university where they learned how to do petroglyphs is what I think. There are a lot of them. We also drove south on a BLM road out into the lava country of a volcano that erupted 3.5 million years ago – give or take a century or two!!! Connie got her fix of 4 wheeling so she is easier to be around. It has been a little while since we were in 4-wheel drive low range. The weather has sure changed – it is cool tonight and forecast to be cooler the next few days. We are sitting in the camper tonight with polar fleeces on – yesterday everyone was running their air conditioners around here (except us that is).
Last sunrise at our camp south of Ajo.
The place where they learned to do petroglyphs.
We stopped at some old corrals so Zeus could smell around.
Some cow really hit this steel post.
Out on the BLM road.
Connie was pretty excited to see our first cacti in bloom.
Here she is getting a little slow driving in trying to miss the rocks.
