SCULPTURE OF THE WILD - Part of the Blackfoot Pathways

Connie and I headed up to Lincoln, Montana to see the Sculpture of the Wild there.  Connie had read about this online and was pretty intrigued with what she saw.  So, for our Sunday Drive this is where we headed.

An old tepee burner converted to a museum sort of.

There were a lot of old black and white photos of logging in days past.  Horse and man power were what was prevalent back then.  I really enjoyed seeing these pictures.

Big cross cut saws.

Mechanized saws for cutting lumber in slabs.

Horses were used a lot!

And the sculptures were quite different but interesting.

Burned wood on the outside but inside was some very well sanded and sealed wood.

Took quite some time to cut these pieces of wood out.

There were 30,000 news papers made up this sculpture!

There were a few more sculptures that I didn't take pictures of but it was all very interesting and if you drive through Lincoln, Montana I would recommend the stop.  And just down the street they have a great place to get an ice cream cone!

A HIKE INTO BAKER LAKE

We have heard that the Baker Lake hike is a good and pretty short (no one said how steep it was though!)  We decided to combine it with our Sunday drive.  We certainly wish the visibility was better as we have a lot of smoke in our valley right now from all the fires here in Montana and in other states.  But it turned out to be a great hike and if you forgive and forget all the smoke, it was a good day.  Coming out was the worst for me.  My thighs were burning pretty bad coming down the very steep parts.

Saw these two mule deer fawns on our drive up.

You can see some of the smoke almost blocking out the mountain in the background.  Down in the valley it is much worse.

Connie and Zeph

About the only flat spot on the trail and a great view.

The lake.

Zeph wondering where to swim.

A FEW PICTURES FROM AROUND HERE

One of Connie's lilies.

A couple of whitetail bucks watching me and Zeph walk by.

Looking west from our walk the other morning.  Can't even see the mountains.

A COUPLE OF POSTS ALL IN ONE

KAYAKING COMO LAKE

Connie and I did a great little paddle on Como Lake for our first kayaking of the year.  The water was great - flat and no wind.  We were out of shape for paddling but managed to make it up to the falls and back!

The kayak ready to go.  We were one of the first to get out on the water as we like to get up early and get going.  It was really crowded when we came back in.

The lake was full and so we kayaked through the cottonwoods right at first. Just a few pictures of the trip to the falls.

The peaks at the end of the lake.
The falls at the head of the lake.

SAND BASIN

Our next trip was driving up Skalkaho Pass and over to Granite County then headed into the Sand Basin area.  It had been years since I was there and a first for Connie.  Great looking country and a lot of meadows.

Skalkaho Falls.

Sand Basin.

A ground squirrel wondering why we are in his area.

Lots of little creeks and most have small trout in them.

A frog keeping a close eye on me.

Flowers in the meadow.

Connie and Zeph out in a meadow.

BURNT FORK LAKE WITH CARL, DEB, AND ELAINA

We drove up Willow Creek past the lookout and down to where you can hike into Burnt Fork Lake.  It is a man made lake for irrigation down in the valley.  Pretty place though.

Spring flowers all over.

Two track road you hike in on.

Carl, Elaina, and Deb hiking over to a fishing spot.

Burnt Fork Lake.

Fishing was not the best although they did have a bite or two.

Our lunch spot.

And we had a squirrel waiting to see if we left any food for him.
