ANOTHER FOUR WHEEL DRIVE ROAD TO DRIPPING SPRINGS

We have always wanted to get to a place near Quartzsite that is called dripping springs.  There are petroglyphs there and some reports say they were quite a few.  So we figured out how to get there sort of and took off to find it.  The directions we had were not the best and google did not seem so sure it knew either.  We were stopped at the top of a hill checking maps and directions when a side by side came by with a young couple in it.  They had been there a few days before and pointed out about where it was and and what to look for to make the final turn.  The road was one of the steepest we had been on that is for sure.  Our little old jeep did a good job and we made it.  Turned out to be a pretty fun day and the petroglyphs were pretty good also.  Maybe not up to what we had heard though.

An old dead saguaro.

Just rotting away.

The tires look good on this side.

Some of the hills were rather steep and narrow.

And a gps is always handy!

This was the steepest part down to the spring area.
Some of the petroglyphs were pretty unusual and we had not seen before.

A DRIVE OVER McPHERSON PASS

We moved our camp yesterday evening as the weather forecast was for a lot of rain to hit our area in the evening through today.  The rain didn’t hardly show up until this evening.  But it did rain pretty hard and we had puddles all around.  We would have had standing water in the low spot we were camped in so good thing we moved.  This morning after our walk we headed in to Quartzsite to fill up with fuel and then headed south to the southern end of KOFA where we drove the road over McPherson Pass and came out in the central part of KOFA.  We thought about taking a tour of an old mine down there but it was starting to rain a little and thought better of it.  We have driven the road the opposite direction when we had our little red jeep and it is a very pretty dessert mountainous drive.  We got back to our camp in the late afternoon and it started to rain.  And it rained pretty darn hard for a while.  Really glad we moved last night.

We are just leaving our campsite on our morning walk.  You can see a few dark clouds hanging around.  They did produce some rain throughout the day.

This the old mine at the start of our journey.

The dessert mountains.

The road was pretty darn good for the most part.

Connie did not know what this flower was so will be looking it up tonight.

This old dead saguaro had some of ribs hanging to the sides.  I had not seen this before.

It was cold and damp so the poppies were not open.

The top.

Coming down the other side we were amazed at the cholla forests we saw.
