LAST POST OF SOUTH 2020

Packed up and left Roosevelt Lake and headed north.  Things were closing down around there as they wanted everyone to leave and head home or stay at home.  Spent the first night at Lake Meade National Recreation Area, the second at Jackpot, NV then arrived home the third night.  A rather short trip this year but a good one.

This is the "A" Cross road that goes across the Tonto river but with all the rain they had to close it.  It is one of the main ways to get on the east side of Roosevelt Lake.

The main river channel is another 1/4 to 1/2 mile down the road.

An unusual Saguaro.

This is a place we have camped many times over the years.  It is pretty hard to get to but great views.

Owls clover in the forground.

A hedgehog cacti.

Connie's sisters gave her this "selfie" stick so we had to try it out with my camera.

A little snow on the peaks by Lake Meade.

Some big rig motorhomes that are camped near the lake.  Rumor has it they were just waiting out the virus.

FOUND A NEW HIKE NEAR ROOSEVELT LAKE IN ARIZONA #1

Connie and I were out checking out some Forest Service roads yesterday and saw what appeared to be a narrow canyon.  We decided to check it out and found a great little hike with lots of colorful rocks.  We named it Pretty Rock Canyon.  Not very long but was worth the hike over to it.  Sorry, no coordinates or directions given.  We are still camped east of the lake and it is raining today.  Hope it stops soon as it will take a few days to dry out the roads enough to get out of here. But we have good books to read and plenty of food.  Toilet paper may be a problem though as there was none in Globe when we went through a few days ago.

Zeph way up there making sure it is safe for us to continue!

Lots of pretty rocks all over the place.

Big saguaros.

ROOSEVELT LAKE

18 March 2020:  We left Ajo, AZ on the 15th of March and drove up to Gila Bend.  Spent the night there and then drove up to the Roosevelt Lake area and are camped east of the lake where we camped last year off road 60.  It was a little soft when we came in as they also have been having some rain.  On our way through Globe we stopped at Fry’s and did a little grocery shop to stock up.  They had everything we wanted except toilet paper!  Or any paper products of any sort!  What craziness this is!  Can’t believe people are hording their toilet paper.  Walmart was also checked and they did not have any either.  So, we just headed to our campsite and camped.  Spent a day up at Parker Canyon looking at a few things.  Also took a drive out to road 97 and explored that area some.  We found a really neat little canyon that has some cool rocks in it.  Named it Pretty Rocks Canyon.

Our first sunset at Roosevelt Lake.

Our campsite.

A rather large saguaro next to Connie and Zeph.

Lots of Owls Clover this year.

The fruit of a cholla.

Don't know who spent some time putting this dream catcher on this century plant but it took some time.

Lichens on the rocks where no sun hits them.

Connie and her dog.

Lots of poppies this year on the hillsides.

Connie loves her jeep.

Waterfalls in the canyon.

UPDATE 14 MARCH 2010

We are still down in the Ajo, AZ area but are getting close to leaving and going a little north.  Not for the weather though.  It has been cold, windy, and raining here and it looks like it is the same a little further north.  We can't believe all the rain we have been having here.  More than many years combined!   I have been taking a few pictures though and they are below.

A little rain on a cholla bloom.

Rainy looking skies.

This morning we had sunshine and pretty warm temperatures so the desert Lilly was looking good.

The ocotilla is really starting to bloom.

Some of the old tailings from the silver mine in Ajo.

The cloud formations were pretty impressive when the rains quit.

We saw this coyote with mange the other day.  Sad.
