We stopped at Cathedral Gorge State Park just outside Panaca, NV to spend the night. We have stopped there a couple of times if our memory serves us correctly. Once was because we were so tired we needed a place to stay and hardly looked around. The other time was a long time ago (at least 20 years) and we did take a hike there. But we never really explored the place and this time we did. Pictures below. If you are ever near here it is worth the stop.
2.5 million years ago this area was a lake. Much has changed since then.
The formations here are made from sediment from the bottom of the lake and upheavals.
My hiking buddies.
A few bushes had these caterpillars on them.
There were some pigeons roosting in some of the canyons. And a couple of times they startled us when they flew.
Lots of slot canyons and caves.
Some very narrow slots.
Looking up to the sky in a slot.
Here is one of the pigeons that would startle us.
The creek beds have formations in the sediment.
