Valley of Fire

27 March 2021:  We slowed our progress north for one day and went out to Valley of Fire at the Nevada State Park and hiked a trail we had not hiked in a number of years.  Last time we did this hike was with Bill and Marney and that was many years ago.  It is a great hike but more crowded than in years past.  I think we hiked it first in the mid 90’s when we first started camping and hiking there right after we retired and were based out of SLC doing a lot of skiing.  But when there was no new powder to ski, we would go hike and explore.  The pictures don’t do it justice but you can get an idea of how it looks.

Palm trees in the wind near our camp.

Headed to Valley of Fire White Dome area.

Up on top hiking around.

Zeph looking around at all the rocks he has to climb.

Connie and Zeph. Connie's legs are sure brown.

A view to the south.

My hiking partners.

An old man with his cane and his dog.

Don't know how this little sand globs form, but they sure are stuck on the sandstone.

Connie and Zeph taking in the views.

Lots of formations.

Dog in some shade.

Hiking back out.

AJO NUMBER FOUR

Still down in Ajo and the weather has changed.  The winds have died down and it is much warmer.  Hiking in T Shirts now!  Figuring out when and how we are going to head back to Montana.  Here are some pictures.

The sunrises are still amazing down here.

Our camp at sunrise.

A storage tank for water.  The BLM folks are getting high tech with their drinkers.  Solar powered and a much better system of storage.

The drinkers are much better than the old ones.

An odd saguaro.

Just another pretty sunrise.

We drove down to the border to check out the completed wall.  Looks good.

These are pieces of the old wall in the front and the new wall behind.  How easy it was to cross the border when there was just the old wall.

Group photo near where we had a photo of the 4 of us taken last year during construction and now with the new wall behind us.

We have had our picture taken in front of this Organ Pipe cactus at our campsite a number of times.

Thought this substation was pretty funny and is the smallest I have ever seen.  It is just outside Ajo.

A couple of raven watching us go by.

A couple of pictures of a javelina.  click any where on a picture to enlarge.

Out hiking around in the desert.

Thought this beetle was colorful.

AJO NUMBER THREE

Some more pictures from the Ajo area.

The top of Charley Bell Pass looking south.

Zeph wondering why it is taking me so long to walk back to camp.  He is not into taking pictures on his morning walk. He is in his "lets get going mode".

This is part of a rock that fell off a mountain.

More sunrise pictures.
