HEADED NORTH

We departed the Roosevelt Lake area today and now are in Payson for a resupply.  Will be departing here tomorrow and headed up to Lee's Ferry near Page, AZ.  Below are the last pictures from Roosevelt area.  We hiked into the Solome Wilderness area which we have been visiting for years.  Lots more water this year than in the past.

Just walking in the flowers is worth the trip.

View of the Solome river.

We took pictures in front of the dead saguaro when it was alive years ago so thought it would be great to do it now.  We are all older but at least we are not dead!

Who said old 70 year olds could not have fun!!

Zeph loves to swim in this pool.

The river runs through some very pretty rocks.

Georgene by another pool upstream.

And Zeph enjoying some more swimming.

The cactus flowers are really starting to pop.

Coming out of the river bottom when it is hot in the afternoon is a pull, but well worth the effort.

And a cold beer does taste good at the end.

UPDATE 29 MARCH 2019 - MORE ROOSEVELT PICTURES

We are still at Roosevelt Lake but will be leaving tomorrow.  Don't have all the pictures put on the blog that I have taken here but will continue to update.  Our friends Gary and Georgine left today to drive home to St George.  There departure was a little delayed because their dog decided to take a stroll in the desert by herself.  It was about an hour before we got her rounded up.

Looking at the lower end of Parker Creek.

This is a new hawk for me.  It is a Zonetail hawk.  Looks like a buzzard in flight.  There was a pair making a nest in the canyon.

Lots of contrails.

The yuccas are starting to bloom.

An old dead saguaro.

The petals are falling of the blossoms.

Some cattle near Salome Creek.  Everything is better with cows around!!  (A Corb Lund song).

Crossing Salome Creek.

Zeph waiting for Connie to throw a stick.

A hawk on a saguaro.

Hiking the Vineyard trail.

A Mojave rattler said don't come any closer mister.

He finally gave up on my picture taking and crawled into the rocks.
