WILDLIFE

Poured out .3 inches of rain this morning out of our gauge - that puts us at 2.5 inches in the past 10 days or so.  Everything is wet.   But we did not have much rain today.  Went for a nice ride and got to see quite a few elk.  We rode in some areas that neither Connie or I could remember if we had ever been in these little drainages before.  A few pictures below.  Also we are seeing a lot more birds around our place this year than in the past.  Maybe it is because cat May is getting old!  Still a little cool though.  Had to ride in jackets all day.

Connie watching a cow and calf.  Click to enlarge.

This old cow was not a bit scared of us.  She watched us for a while then went back to eating.

This tree is pretty unique as it has large branches growing very low.  Just under it is like a big tent.  We had just came up on a half dozen elk bedded down just behind it.  They would just move off into the thick trees and watch us.

Still some snow in the high country.

We saw both kinds of bluebirds today.  This is the mountain bluebird and below is the western.

A finch that has really been hanging around our bird feeder.
