THE ANCIENT ONES

We hiked up to some old Indian Ruins just to the south of our camp.  No trail just bushwhacking through the desert brush and cacti.  Can't believe they lived up on top of a hill like that.  Not much left of the ruins although there are lots of rocks where the walls were.  There are only a few shards laying around.

It is pretty warm down here and we are looking at our options when to start heading north to Colorado and Utah.  There is a cold front coming in the end of next week so we will delay until that passes I think.

This series of pictures is of a Northern Mockingbird doing his ritual of flying up in the air and doing almost a somersault then landing back on the tree he started from.  It is fun to watch this bird and it is also one who sings and sings.  This bird has been hanging around camp for a couple of days entertaining us in the mornings and evenings.

Connie starting out on our hike to the ruins.

This is a Desert Mariposa  which only sprouts and blooms if the conditions are right.   We saw three or four of these on our hike.  A member of the tulip family I think.

Some of the walls of the ruins.

A few shards and the rock where they ground their corn.

Now this just amazes me.  Here we are at an ancient Indian site that used some form of communication with others, but certainly not sending text messages from this spot!

This little creature was intent on chewing some of these leaves.
