LAKE MEAD 2

Moved our camp to the Stewart’s Point area - great camping site.  Got camp set up and then launched the kayak where we could drive down to the water.  I paddled it back to the little beach below our campsite and Connie took the jeep around.  Zeph went with me.  He does love the water and kayaking.  Connie met us down at the beach, and we went for a nice afternoon of paddling.  Headed north towards Overton beach, but of course did not have the time or paddle arms to reach it.  Had a little lunch on some rocks then headed back to our beach.
Wind came up in the middle of the night and water got pretty rough by morning so went into Overton for apple fritters and coffee instead of paddling.  We always get apple fritters at Lin’s Market in Overton.  Not as good as they used to be as they had chunks of apples in them at that time.  But traditions are traditions.  Also went for a drive on a primitive (4-wheel drive low range) road that Connie wanted to take and see if she could make it down to the lake.  We did not as it was really slow going over rocks. But it was something we can cross off our list of things to do around here.  Connie has been riding her bike quite a bit down here.  Great place to do that also.

Our new campsite.

Me and Zeph getting ready to take kayak to our beach.

And away we go.

 This dog loves to kayak.

This is our camper over looking the lake.

Cormorants on the rock and a grebe swimming by.

Cormorants have a hard time getting up enough airspeed so have to run on the water a bit.

Saw lots of migrating gulls headed north and even a flock of crows.

A pair of grebes cruised by our camp.

The views from our camp.

This was interesting.  I think the lower aircraft probably had a gear malfunction that said all of the gears were not down and locked so the other plane flew close and confirmed that the gear was actually down.  They could not confirm that is was locked down, but could say that all three gears were down.  The Las Vegas tower probably sent them out over the lake to make that determination.

A railroad car just out of Overton had quite the picture painted on it.

Connie's road that she wanted to drive.

This is on our way back with Lake Mead in the background.
