KAYAKING AT LAKE COMO

After getting Connie off for her riding lesson this morning, I put the little kayak on the jeep and headed up to Lake Como to do a little kayaking.  Weather is getting pretty warm so kayaking on the lake is good.  Paddled up to the falls which is 4 miles and then back to the boat ramp area.  Not many people up there in the morning, but they were starting to show up about noon.

The water was really flat when I started out.  Lots of pine pollen on the water though

Lake Como is a great place to kayak.  The views are pretty good also.

This is where the main source of water comes into the lake.  There is a hiking trail around the lake with a bridge over the creek.

Since the lake is so high, some of the pondarosa pines are standing in the water at this time of year.

An active osprey nest on top of an old snag.  I could see a couple of young ones in the nest it looked like.

But as the picture below shows, this snag is not going to stand for many more years.

A mother merganser with one baby, but there are nine more coming along as the picture below shows.
