ESCAPING THE SMOKE IN MONTANA

As most of you know, the west is on fire.  We have a lot of fires going on in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.  The air is rated unhealthy or dangerous at times.   So Connie and I decided to try and escape the local smoke here in the Bitterroot and head to the northwest part of our state.  We have not spent enough time up there so that was our destination.  They had some smoke as we all do but it was rated better than here in the Bitterroot.  Well that lasted about a day and then the fires blew up around there and it was smoky.  But we had a great time and got to see some country we had not laid our eyes upon.

This is what it looked like going through Victor headed towards Missoula on our way out of town.

Our first lake we kayaked was Bull Lake and it was a little smoky.

But we got to paddle with some river otters which is always nice.

This bald eagle was missing quite a few feathers.

Just up from Bull Lake is the Ross Creek Giant Cedars area which was sure worth going to.  Big trees.

Some folks just have too much time on their hands!  Lots of stacked rocks in this area.

And there was hardly anyone in the area and the campground only had a few people in it.
