BIG ISLAND VISITORS

Our friends from the Big Island in Hawaii are on the mainland for the summer so stayed a few days with us.  We went up to the Seeley Lake area and did some kayaking.  Was a little disappointing in the number of people that were up there in the middle of the week.  We could not find a campground that had spaces available.  So we stayed in a gravel pit the first night.  Marney said it reminded her of camping in Alaska in 1991 during our retirement party.  Connie and I knew every gravel pit between Fairbanks and Homer in those days after spending so long living up there.  We ended up camping at Holland Lake and kayaking there.  Great weather for the most part and had a great time.

Our gravel pit campsite.  Not bad in my opinion.

The Lodge at Holland Lake from our kayak.

Great water for kayaking.

A snack and a little walk up a creek.

The falls at the end of the Lake.

Flat water with a few clouds.

The sun broke through and lit up the other side of the lake while we were having our supper on the beach.

Hiking the trail by the canoe/kayak trail by the ranger station.

We saw some bear scat on the trail.  Notice the candy wrappers and other things in it.

Back in the Bitterroot we hung our welcome sign.  Bill is mixing cement to pour in the holes.  Marney is supervising.
