AJO 5

The area around Ajo has some of the best places for our walks in the mornings.  The weather has been outstanding and the flowers are really starting to peak.  Although it is still cool at night, the days are hitting the 80’s now.  It won’t be long until we are headed north to higher elevations and cooler daytime temperatures.  We did take a drive out to Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife refuge and just out in the BLM to places we haven’t visited in a number of years.  Random pictures below. Click on any photo to enlarge.

They had some pretty strong winds with rain soaked ground.  A number of cactus were over turned.

An arch out of an old saguaro.

A cholla forest.

The fairy dusters are really out this year.

Cabeza Prieta is pretty stark.

Zeph doesn't like the bees around tanks.

The windmill in the back put water in the storage tank.

Connie and Zeph in front of a very large cholla.

This is the mine at Ajo.  It started as a mine for gold and silver during the 1400's by the Spanish.

A rock with lots of copper in it.

Zeph gets a few cholla in his feet.  The pliers we carry are essential for the removal.

An A-10 flying while we were out walking.

Another tank that we walk by a lot.

This one has a solar powered pump that fills the tank below.
